Bayern Munich enjoyed a good midweek cup result after a torrid outing at Borussia Monchengladbach in DFB Pokal last week. The German Champions clinched their fourth consecutive win in their Champions League group as the latest victory came against Benfica at Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

With the win against the Portuguese club, Die Roten also confirmed their spot in the next round of the Champions League. The German Champions had been utterly dominant in all group games, including a 3-0 win at Camp Nou against Barcelona to book a place in the round of 16.

Along with sealing a place in the next round of the Champions League, Die Roten has also enjoyed an influx in revenue for the first quarter of the season. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern has already secured €70 million in revenue from the Champions League this season.

The defending Bundesliga champions are expected to see an upward trend in the revenue for this season as fans are also back at Allianz Arena for games across all competitions. Die Roten has been playing games behind closed doors in the last 12 months or so due to the pandemic.

Earlier in summer, the Bavarian club had confirmed losses worth €150 million due to the pandemic. The huge losses also held the club back from spending big money on players during the summer window. The boost in revenues this season will mean that Die Roten will be in a much better financial state to compete for top players in the transfer window.

Despite the huge losses due to the pandemic, Die Roten did manage to replace a couple of senior defenders by signing Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig. They added depth in the midfield department by signing Upamecano’s teammate in Leipzig- Marcel Sabitzer. The shrewd free transfers of Omar Richards and Sven Ulreich also filled voids in the first-team squad.

The German Champions may not have spent heavily last summer when the spending of English clubs and PSG is taken into the picture. However, Die Roten has made sure that they have secured the future of key players. They have already announced contract renewals of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, while Serge Gnabry is also committing his long-term future to the club.

Even though revenue is set to improve this year, Die Roten may not have extravagant spending next summer. The Bavarian club will have to trim the squad a bit to compensate for recent contract renewals, but their hands might not be held back if world-class players are on the market.
