The summer transfer window was not fruitful for Bayern Munich in terms of finding good offers for fringe players in the squad. The Bavarian club had to eventually arrange loan moves for a few players to make sure that they get consistent playing time this season.
Adrian Fein was one of the few players from the senior squad that went out on loan before the start of the new season. The German midfielder reached an agreement with Greuther Fuerth for a season-long loan.
However, things have not gone as per plans for the young midfielder. Fein has found it difficult to get minutes in the senior team, let alone starting games in the Bundesliga. He has been often seen frustrated on the bench during Bundesliga games.
After ten matchdays, Adrian Fein has played only 22 minutes in the Bundesliga across two appearances from the bench. According to Kicker (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern is planning to terminate this loan deal and bring Fein back to Bavaria in the winter transfer window. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
The 22-year-old midfielder shone at Hamburg during the 2019/20 campaign. His rapid growth at Hamburg was rewarded by Rekordmeister with a new contract. Fein was expected to be part of the first team the following season, but Hansi Flick couldn’t give him meaningful playing time in the first month of last season.
Fein eventually decided to get more game time away from Allianz Arena. Before the end of the summer transfer window in 2020, Fein secured a loan move to PSV Eindhoven. The Dutch club reportedly had an option of €10 million to make his move permanent in the following season.
The move to Eredivisie was a big setback for Fein. He struggled for regular game time, and PSV eventually decided against signing him permanently. The last 18 months have been difficult for the young midfielder, so getting the next loan or permanent move right is crucial.
Die Roten has endured mixed results with loan deals in the last couple of years. Christian Fruchtl and Sarpreet Singh found themselves in a similar situation as Fein at Fuerth. The latter returned to Bavaria midway through the campaign to play in the reserves for the rest of the campaign. Fein might also go down the same route and explore his options in summer. Considering the depth of the midfield department in the first team, Fein will be better served by getting a permanent move to a club where he can kickstart his career by playing regularly.
