Sule should return in back four for Bayern Munich

The defense collectively struggled against Monchengladbach, which exposed Manuel Neuer badly throughout the game. The German international couldn’t do anything for all five goals from Gladbach. Neuer will be hoping to keep a clean sheet on Saturday when he starts against Union Berlin.

Dayot Upamecano had a torrid outing against Monchengladbach. The French defender committed too many errors that were ruthlessly punished by the home side. He has been fairly good for Die Roten this season, but Wednesday’s performance could see him lose his place in the starting XI for Saturday’s game.

Niklas Sule will come in for Upamecano on Saturday. The German defender is likely to be paired with Lucas Hernandez against Union Berlin. Hernandez also had a poor game at Borussia Park, but his recent good run of form gives him a slight edge over Upamecano.

In the left-back position, Alphonso Davies will get the nod. The Canadian full-back returned from a minor injury against Monchengladbach on Wednesday. Omar Richards had done a fine job in the absence of Davies against Hoffenheim last weekend, but he still has a lot to work on to play ahead of Davies. Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard will continue to play in the right-back position.
