After another emphatic victory against Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich turns their attention to DFB Pokal. The defending Bundesliga Champions will be travelling to Borussia Park for the second round on Wednesday.

Earlier this season, Borussia Monchengladbach had held Die Roten for 1-1 draw in the first league game of the new campaign. Since the draw at Borussia Park, the Bavarian club has enjoyed an upturn in performances as they consistently churn out victories.

The DFB Pokal does allow Julian Nagelsmann to give opportunities to his fringer players. In the emphatic first-round win against Bremer SV, Nagelsmann had rested numerous players. There are unlikely to be numerous changes against Gladbach due to the quality of the home side.

Manuel Neuer will start in the goal as Sven Ulreich is yet to recover from injury. The club captain enjoyed a comfortable outing against Hoffenheim as the team defended brilliantly. Neuer missed out on a clean sheet during his last visit to Borussia Park, so he will be even more determined to get things right on Wednesday.

In the back four, Niklas Sule is likely to start in the heart of the defense with Lucas Hernandez. Dayot Upamecano will get rest after playing the entire 90 minutes against Hoffenheim on Saturday. Josip Stanisic will start in the right-back position to give Benjamin Pavard a breather, while Alphonso Davies will slot in the left-back position.

Leon Goretzka has returned to first-team training this week, but he may not get a start straightaway on Wednesday. Joshua Kimmich and Marcel Sabitzer will keep their places in the starting XI as pivot midfielders, while Corentin Tolisso is likely to get minutes from the bench.

Jamal Musiala has done well on the left flank and central areas this season. The youngster may get the nod in the number ten role as Thomas Muller gets much-deserved rest. Musiala will keep swapping positions with Leroy Sane as the former Schalke winger will start on the left flank for Rekordmeister.

On the right flank, Kingsley Coman will get the nod. The French winger came off the bench on Saturday to score Die Roten’s fourth goal. Coman is getting back the match rhythm after missing out on action for a few weeks due to heart surgery. Wednesday’s game will provide him with more game time to get back to his best. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will lead the line for the visitors as Robert Lewandowski gets a break. The Cameroonian forward deserves to get starts in domestic competitions since he is currently on good goalscoring form.
