Bayern Munich vs. Hoffenheim: Four players to watch
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich hosts Hoffenheim on Matchday Nine of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. The two clubs exchanged victories last season as Hoffenheim shocked Bayern with a 4-1 win at home and then Die Roten won the reserve fixture by the exact same score of 4-1. Lots of goals should be expected in this match with both clubs finding the back of the net often this season. Here are four players to watch for ahead of Saturday’s match.
Andrej Kramaric
While Kramaric has been known for his goal-scoring ability during his Bundesliga career, so far this season he has turned from goal scorer to provider of goals. Currently, the Croatian international leads the league with six assists to his name. In total, he has been directly involved in seven of Hoffenheim’s 17 Bundesliga goals this season as he also has registered one goal of his own.
Kramaric has four goals and one assist in ten career appearances for Hoffenheim against Bayern. On Saturday, the forward will likely be leading the visitor’s offense in an attempt to shock the defending champions like they did last season when they won 4-1.
Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski got back to his goal-scoring ways last weekend against Bayer Leverkusen when he scored two goals in the 5-1 win. Entering that match he had failed to score in his previous two league appearances. Against Hoffenheim, Lewandowski has been very successful with 11 goals and four assists in 14 appearances. If he scores at least one goal against the visitors on Saturday then he will reach the ten-goal mark in the current Bundesliga campaign.
Leroy Sane
Wednesday night’s 4-0 win over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League saw Sane register his first career brace for Bayern. The winger scored a fantastic free-kick to open the goal scoring and then finished another opportunity in the second half to record two goals. Following his incredible performance, Sane will certainly be looking for another impactful performance as Bayern look to remain atop the Bundesliga table with a victory.
Christoph Baumgartner
The 22-year-old has been in good form as of late with three goals scored in his last five appearances for Hoffenheim. Baumgartner is having one of his best starts to a season in his career. Last season, the Austrian international did not have any goals recorded through seven appearances, this season he already has three goals in seven appearances. Baumgartner is on the path to his most impactful season offensively for Hoffenheim and he will be looking to continue his good form against Bayern.
