Bayern Munich make contingency plans for Kingsley Coman’s departure
After the end of the transfer window, Bayern Munich has focused on securing the future of key players. While few players have already committed their long-term future to Die Roten, Kingsley Coman remains far from signing a new deal at the club.
The French winger is set to be out of contract in 2023. Since Rekordmeister cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer, a transfer away from Bavaria could take place. As per the latest update from German media, it does look like Die Roten has started planning life without Coman.
According to Spox, Hasan Salihamidzic and Bayern are not expecting Coman to sign a new contract. Even though Coman’s association with Pini Zahavi has ended, things have not changed in terms of negotiations between club and player. The French international wants parity with the wages of Leroy Sane.
This report also confirms that defending German Champions have been exploring options to replace Coman. Red Bull Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi has been linked heavily with a move to Bavaria. The German forward’s representatives reportedly held talks with Die Roten at Sabner Strasse last weekend. Along with Bayern, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are other clubs eager to sign Adeyemi.
Apart from Adeyemi, Spox reports that Ajax’s Antony is another wide player that could potentially replace Coman in the squad next summer. It does look certain that Die Roten will not be increasing their contract offer for Coman if they are actively looking for his replacements.
Coman’s move could be to a Premier League club. Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with the French winger during the summer window. Few reports even hinted that Liverpool had a concrete interest in Coman, but the transfer fee demanded by Die Roten was out of the English club’s reach.
The French winger’s departure will be a big blow for Bayern. After overcoming severe injury problems, Coman was finally delivering consistent performances in the last two seasons. Coman is likely to get better with time as he is just entering the peak years of his career.
The former Juventus winger is well within his rights to demand a salary similar to Sane. However, Die Roten has been renewing contracts on their terms rather than bowing down to players’ demands. For now, Coman will be looking to get back to his best after recovering from minor heart surgery in September. The French winger will have a big role to play this season as Julian Nagelsmann’s team is chasing glory in all competitions.
