The squad planning is in full effect at Bayern Munich even after the end of the transfer window last month. The defending German champions are keen on securing the futures of important players, which will allow them to enjoy success in the present and future.
Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka have already committed the prime of their careers to Die Roten by signing new deals. The German club is in advanced negotiations with Serge Gnabry over a new contract. After Gnabry, the next in line for a new contract could be Manuel Neuer.
According to Sport1, Neuer has no plans to look for a new adventure at this stage of his career. The German international is eager to play in Bavaria and eventually bring curtains to his glittering football career. Neuer’s current deal is set to end in 2023, so talks over a new contract should ideally begin after the end of the current campaign.
After a serious injury in 2017, Neuer had a slight dip in form for some time. However, the last couple of seasons have seen the German goalkeeper getting back to his best. Despite turning 35 earlier this year, Neuer remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His performances last season have led to his nomination for Yachine Trophy.
Die Roten may try to bring down Neuer’s wages in the next few deals or the length of the contract might get shorter. The Bavarian club has been taking a different approach while handing out deals to older players, which is entirely understandable.
Neuer’s decision to renew could be bad news for Alexander Nubel. The young goalkeeper has been tipped to succeed Neuer for club and country. Nubel moved to Bavaria from Schalke on a free transfer in 2020. He struggled for playing time in his debut season due to Neuer’s terrific form.
Nubel eventually joined Monaco on a two-year loan deal to get playing time during the summer window. He is expected to challenge Neuer when he returns from a loan spell. However, a new deal for Neuer could plant a seed of doubt in the young shot-stopper’s mind.
Neuer is obviously a key player on and off the pitch for Bayern. He certainly can do a terrific job beyond his current deal. However, Rekordmeister should make a decision regarding Neuer’s deal in such a way that they remain on right track in terms of getting a long-term successor for him.
