Bayern Munich Frauen continued their winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 win over visiting Hoffenheim. The home side was able to bounce back from a disappointing scoreless draw against Benfica in mid-week UEFA Champions League action. This victory was Bayern‘s fifth of the current Frauen-Bundesliga campaign as they remain undefeated in the German top-flight.

Bayern opened the scoring in the 43rd minute and would add a second goal in the 61st minute. Hoffenheim made things close in the final minutes of the match as Nicole Billa scored in the 76th minute. However, a goal in second-half stoppage time from the home side ensured that Bayern earned all three points.

Lea Schuller was the player that led Bayern in scoring. The German international scored two goals, one in the first half and one in the second half. Her two-goal performance increases her season goal tally in the Frauen-Bundesliga to six goals in five appearances. Lineth Beerensteyn was the scorer of Bayern’s third and final goal of the match. Beerensteyn now has two goals in five appearances this season.

The first goal conceded this season

Entering this match, Bayern had yet to concede a goal in the Frauen-Bundesliga this season. When Hoffenheim scored in the 76th minute it brought an end to that very impressive defensive record. Despite the goal allowed, Bayern still enjoys a +23 goal differential with 24 goals scored so far. This is by far the best goal differential any club has record this season.

Goals, goals, and more goals

With 24 goals scored, Bayern is averaging just under five goals per match in the Frauen-Bundesliga with 4.8 goals per match. This is a higher average than what they recorded last season. The 2020/21 campaign saw them register a 3.73 goal per match average in the 22 match campaign. (Stats courtesy: fbref)

Schuller’s impressive start

After scoring 16 goals last season, Schuller is looking like she will surpass that number of goals in the current term. With six goals in five appearances, the striker is well on her way to her first Frauen-Bundesliga season of 20 goals or more. If she does indeed reach a goal total of 20 goals or more, then she should finish as the league’s top scorer as the previous three winners of the top scorer award have all scored 20 goals or more.

dark. Next. Niklas Sule keeping all options open

Bayern has yet to have a player reach the 20 goal mark in a single season in the 21st century. Schuller will certainly be making history at the club if she is able to continue this goal-scoring form for the remainder of the campaign.
