Bayern Munich has a key decision to make regarding the future of Niklas Sule in the coming months. The German defender has just nine months left on his current deal. As things stand, Sule will be free to hold talks with other clubs in January and sign a pre-contract agreement during the winter transfer window.

However, things could change dramatically in the next few months since Sule has made a strong start to the new season. The latest update from Germany suggests that Sule is impressing coaches of the first team and making a strong case for a new contract.

According to Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg, head coach Julian Nagelsmann wants Sule to stay at Bayern and sign a new contract. For now, talks for a new contract have been delayed by all parties. Sule has firmly established himself as one of the key players for Nagelsmann in the last couple of months, so it is not surprising to see the German coach pushing for his contract renewal.

However, Sport1 also reports that Sule is looking for wages in excess of €10 million/year. It remains to be seen whether Die Roten is ready to meet his demands after adopting a cautious approach in terms of managing new contracts. The Bavarian club had refused to meet the demands of David Alaba last season, which eventually allowed the Austrian defender to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.

Another possible conclusion for Sule’s contract situation could be him finally engineering a move to the Premier League. The recent report from Der Speigel in Germany confirmed that Sule had previously tried to seal a move to the Premier League.

At the age of 26, Sule is entering the prime years of his career, so he will definitely attract a lot of interest from top clubs. Moreover, the lack of a transfer fee will make him an even more attractive transfer in the next summer transfer window. The next few months could see a lot of activity surrounding Sule’s club future.

Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger has been honoured by the reported interest from Bayern. However, Rudiger did insist that he is currently happy at Chelsea. The German international has been linked with Die Roten in the past few weeks. Rudiger’s contract situation is similar to Sule’s at Bayern.

Rudiger might become a concrete option for Rekordmeister if he doesn’t sign a new deal at Chelsea and Sule leaves Bavaria next summer. The decision from Sule regarding the new contract will most likely dictate the club’s plans to sign a central defender for the fourth summer in a row.
