Bayern Munich was defeated for the first time this season in the Bundesliga. Visiting Eintracht Frankfurt stunned the hosts to record their first league win of the season. Despite taking an early lead from a Leon Goretzka goal, Bayern was unable to hold off Frankfurt as they would score two unanswered goals to take all three points. A second-half strike from Filip Kostic proved to be the difference. Here are five key stats from Bayern’s 2-1 loss.

Efficiency from Frankfurt

Frankfurt only registered a total of five shots against Bayern. However, they were able to convert two of those opportunities into goals which left them with a 40% conversion rate. Bayern had a 5% conversion rate with one goal coming from 20 total shots. The scoring chances were few for the visitors but they made the most of them to record a massive victory. Despite Bayern’s many opportunities, they were unable to match the efficiency Frankfurt displayed when it came to converting scoring chances.

Lewandowski limited

Entering this match, Robert Lewandowski was averaging 34 touches per match in the Bundesliga. On Sunday, he recorded just 21 touches which is far fewer than the average he had amassed through the previous league fixtures. Having scored 15 goals in 16 previous appearances for Bayern against Frankfurt, his limited touches in this match certainly only helped Frankfurt in their quest for all three points.

Kevin Trapp masterclass

In addition to Kostic’s goal and assist, Frankfurt received a massive boost in the match from Trapp who recorded ten saves. The goalkeeper was fantastic throughout the fixture and was able to get the majority of his saves away to safety to prevent Bayern from scoring off the rebound. With Bayern recording expected goals of 2.84, Trapp’s difference in the match is shown here as he was able to hold the hosts to just one goal.

Hinteregger scores again against Bayern

Martin Hinteregger continues to find the back of the net against Bayern. The center-back has scored four goals in his last five Bundesliga appearances against Die Roten. On Sunday his goal leveled the score in the first half as he headed home a perfect corner kick delivery from Kostic.

A rare win at the Allianz Arena

According to OptaFranz, this was the first trim since 2000 that Frankfurt has defeated Bayern in an away fixture. Although Frankfurt has been able to defeat Bayern multiple times at home in recent seasons, they have not typically been able to earn three points when they travel to Bavaria. The victory for Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena also means that for the third consecutive season, Bayern will be unable to do a league double against Frankfurt.
