Bayern Munich hosts Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday Seven of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. The home side will be in search of their sixth victory of the domestic season as they look to remain top of the table entering the October international break. Both clubs exchanged victories last season with Bayern winning at the Allianz Arena and Frankfurt also victorious when they hosted the eventual league winners. Here are five players to watch for ahead of Sunday’s match.

Robert Lewandowski

It was a rare occurrence on Matchday Six when Lewandowski failed to score against Greuther Furth. However, he quickly showed that performance was an anomaly as he went on to score two goals against Dynamo Kyiv in mid-week UEFA Champions League action. On Sunday, it is very likely the striker will be back on the scoresheet. Lewandowski has scored six goals in his last four league appearances against Frankfurt including a hat-trick performance the last time Frankfurt visited the Allianz Arena.

Filip Kostic

Kostic has been involved in three of Frankfurt’s six Bundesliga goals this season. With one goal and two assists, he has been one of the offensive leaders for the club. Following his 14 league assists last season, the Serbian international remains an offensive threat in the final third and he could be the key to Frankfurt generating scoring chances against Bayern.

Joshua Kimmich

The Bayern midfielder is leading the Bundesliga in passes into the final third with 47 recorded in just six appearances. Additionally, he is also among the top ten in the league in key passes and goal-creating actions. Kimmich has seven assists against Frankfurt in 12 appearances and should be at the forefront of creating scoring chances for his club in this match.

Martin Hinteregger

Frankfurt’s center-back has been helping to lead the way defensively for his club. He is among the top ten in the Bundesliga in aerials won, tackles won, and clearances. Frankfurt will need him to produce a top-class performance against Bayern as they look to slow down the goal-scoring machine. In Frankfurt’s 2-1 win over Die Roten last season, Hinteregger was instrumental as he recorded five blocks, three interceptions, and two tackles. A similar performance on Sunday can only help Frankfurt’s chances of achieving a result from this match.

Leroy Sane

The 25-year-old winger has been in terrific form in recent weeks. In his last five appearances for Bayern in all competitions, Sane has registered three goals and four assists. This run of form has allowed him to become the team leader in assists as he has seven in all competitions. On Sunday, he has the opportunity to add to his streak of seven consecutive matches of at least one goal or assist being recorded.
