The squad building process continues to take shape at Bayern Munich even after the end of the transfer window in early September. After the contract renewals of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, Die Roten is now closing on completing negotiations with Serge Gnabry for a new deal.
According to SportBild, talks are well advanced between Serge Gnabry and Bayern for a new contract. The German winger is leaning towards extending his stay in Bavaria. Gnabry has entered in the final two years of his deal, so it was essential for Rekordmeister to extend his contract before next summer.
Gnabry has enjoyed a very good development trajectory at Die Roten in the last three years. After a productive loan spell at Hoffenheim in 2017/18, Gnabry came back to Bavaria to become an important part of the first team.
The German international went up an extra gear in 2019/20 as he ended up with 23 goals across all competitions. He came up with decisive goals throughout the treble-winning campaign and established himself as one of the best wide players in Europe. Former club president Uli Hoeness was pleasantly surprised by the rapid growth of Gnabry at Die Roten.
After a remarkable season in 2019/20, Gnabry did witness a dip in his form as he struggled to score consistently last season. He eventually ended the campaign with 11 goals across all competitions. However, the German winger remains a vital member of the current squad.
Since Gnabry’s best years are ahead of him, Die Roten has done a great job in securing his future. Similar to Kimmich and Goretzka, Gnabry also has a big role to play in the club’s long-term plans to remain successful in Germany and Europe.
After a dip in performances last year, Gnabry will be looking to get back to his best this year. He has started the new season fairly well with three goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions. The 26-year-old winger is reunited with Julian Nagelsmann after enjoying a productive spell under him at Hoffenheim. It does look certain that Gnabry’s productivity in the final third will get better this season, provided he stays away from injuries.
Rekordmeister will most likely turn their attention to the contract renewal of Kingsley Coman once Gnabry signs a new deal. The negotiations with the French winger have not been straightforward until now as he entered the final two years of his current deal. Along with Coman, Bayern will also have to open talks with Robert Lewandowski for a new contract. The German Champions have done a lot of good work on contract extensions this season, but there is more to do in the next few months.
