Bayern Munich face newly promoted side-Greuther Furth in their sixth match of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. Die Roten have won their last four league fixtures and are atop the table entering this weekend’s fixtures. They will be favored to take all three points on Friday night as Greuther Furth has struggled in the early stages of the season. Here are things to watch for ahead of the match.

Robert Lewandowski’s scoring streak

With a goal in every single Bundesliga match he’s played in this season, Lewandowski is on pace for another spectacular campaign in the German top flight. He is tied with Borussia Dortmund’s  Erling Haaland for the most goals scored in the league and could take the lead outright with a single goal or a multi-goal performance against Greuther Furth.

If Lewandowski does indeed score on Friday then it will be the 16th consecutive Bundesliga match that he has registered a goal in. He scored in his last ten league appearances during the 2020/21 campaign and has scored in all five fixtures in the current season. It will certainly be an amazing accomplishment if he is able to at least make it to 20 consecutive matches with at least one goal scored.

Greuther Furth struggling in the first matches of the season

It has been a difficult start to the season for Greuther Furth. They are tied with VfL Bochum for the most goals conceded in the Bundesliga. Additionally, they are currently allowing the second-most shots on target per match. These are not categories any club wants to be near the top of entering a match against a club like Bayern.

Offensively, they have not scored a goal from open play since the first match of the season. The other two remaining goals they have scored have been from successful penalty kick attempts. Only Augsburg has scored fewer goals than Greuther Furth through the first five fixtures of the season.

Bayern is leading the league in both total shots and shots on target. When it comes to scoring goals they have registered a league-leading 20 goals in just five matches. Based on the season statistics so far, Bayern could very well produce another high-scoring performance such as the one they displayed against Bochum last weekend.

These two clubs are heading in opposite directions of the table at the moment and it’s going to take a colossal effort from Greuther Furth to take at least a point away from Friday’s match. They are playing at home but having lost to Wolfsburg 2-0 in their last home fixture it is going to be a difficult task to earn a positive result against Bayern. (Stats courtesy:fbref)

Leroy Sane helping to lead the way

It’s been a great start to the Bundesliga season for the Bayern winger. Two goals and two assists have been produced by Sane in his last three league appearances. He is among the top offensive performers in the league and will be looking to continue his fantastic form against Greuther Furth. Expect him to have another positive impact during Friday’s match.
