Denmark had a remarkable tournament, considering the circumstance they had to go through due to cardiac arrest for Christian Eriksen in the first group game. Along with the emotional drive, the Danish team also had some of the best performers of Euro 2020. Joakim Maehle was one of the key players for the Danish team that reached the semi-finals of the tournament.

Maehle largely operated in the left wing-back role for Denmark throughout the tournament. The defender from Atalanta is a right-footed player, so he can definitely play as a right-back in different systems. Maehle was relentless in defensive and offensive phases of play for Denmark.

The 24-year-old defender from Atalanta ended up with two goals and one assist in the six games he played in the tournament. The assist for Kasper Dolberg against the Cech Republic was one of the best bits of individual play in the tournament. Maehle delivered a pin-point cross from outside his foot to set up the goal for Kasper Dolberg.

Maehle can fill the void in the right-wingback/right-back role in Bayern’s squad. The Danish full-back will provide solid competition to Benjamin Pavard. However, he will have a hefty price tag since his contract at Atalanta expires in 2025.
