Midfielders kept it ticking in the center of the park
MID, Joshua Kimmich — 7/10
Kimmich started in his usual number six position against Freiburg. He kept the things ticking in the park by accumulating 92 % pass completion rate. The German midfielder also did well to sniff danger when Freiburg was trying to hurt his team on the counter.
Similar to his teammates, Kimmich was also trying to get the ball to Lewandowski in the box. He attempted six crosses from open play in an attempt to create chances for the Polish striker. It was not a jaw-dropping performance, but another accomplished outing in the midfield for Kimmich.
MID, David Alaba —6.5 /10
Alaba was once again given the role of the box to box midfield role by Flick on Saturday. The Austrian defender excelled in this position as he provided the thrust while going forward. His lovely switch of play to Muller led to the second goal against Freiburg.
After the arrival of Roca, Alaba slotted in the heart of the defense. His passing was immaculate throughout the game, but his tackling was all over the place. The Austrian often failed to time his tackle, which eventually led to turnovers in the middle of the park. For the second goal, he couldn’t get the block on time to prevent the shot on goal. With the ball, it was a brilliant performance, but without it, Alaba struggled on Saturday.
