Rusty Lewandowski gets the consolation goal

ST, Robert Lewandowski — 6/10

Robert Lewandowski had a frustrating afternoon in Mainz. The Polish striker tried too hard sometimes to get the ball at the back of the net. The rustiness in his game was understandable since he is playing for the first time in a month. He did score a consolation goal in the final minute of the game, but it was not enough for Rekordmeister to clinch the victory.

Substitutes

FWD, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting — 6/10

Choupo-Moting slotted in the left-wing role after coming on at halftime. The Cameroonian forward worked hard and held the ball well, but failed to create clearcut chances. He had a big chance at the hour mark, but he couldn’t get the right contact to head the ball in the net.

DEF, Nianzou Kouassi — 7/10

Kouassi got much-needed minutes under his belt. The Frenchman looked calm and composed in the heart of the defense. On few occasions, he misplaced simple passes, but overall it was a positive outing for the young French defender.

FWD, Jamal Musiala — 6/10

Jamal Musiala looked lively as soon as he came on. However, his impact on the game waned as Mainz looked to see out the game. It has been a good couple of weeks for the teenager, but he would be eager to quickly remember Saturday afternoon in Mainz.

FWD, Serge Gnabry — 6/10

Serge Gnabry failed to make an impact on the game when he came on in the 70th minute. The German winger did provide more urgency in the final third but failed to create clear-cut chances.
