Bayern Munich midfielders have mixed outing in Mainz

MID, Leon Goretzka — 6/10

Leon Goretzka endured a poor outing for the first time this season. The German midfielder was sloppy throughout the first half. He conceded a free-kick from a promising position for Mainz and also ended up getting booked for this foul.

Goretzka was not able to make much of an impact in the final third. He played only one key pass during his time on the pitch. Flick decided to bring him off at halftime and moved Alaba in the midfield. It was a rare off day for Goretzka.

MID, Joshua Kimmich —7 /10

Joshua Kimmich was probably the best player on the pitch for Die Roten. Once the initial storm from Mainz passed by, the German midfielder started dominating the game. He ended up playing three key passes in this game, most amongst Bayern players on the pitch.

In the second half, Kimmich pushed up and joined up attackers on few occasions as Die Roten looked to get back into the game. The German midfielder was trying everything, from crosses to defense splitting passes, but Mainz defended bravely to reduce these chances to nothing. Just like his teammates, Kimmich also looked a spent force as the game went on.
