Bayern Munich succumbed to a rare defeat against Mainz on Saturday. The defending champions will have to wait one more week to win the league title. The performance against Mainz surely suggested that some of the players are fatigued after such a long season. Here are player ratings from Die Roten’s fourth league defeat of the season.

Manager Rating

Hansi Flick — 7/10

Hansi Flick got the team spot on. It is probably the best starting XI for Bayern right now when everyone is fit. The German manager didn’t take time to change things as Nianzou Kouassi, Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting came on at halftime. Unfortunately, these changes were not enough to come back in the game.

Player Ratings

GK, Manuel Neuer — 8/10

Manuel Neuer was unlucky to be on the receiving end at both goals. The German international made sure that the first half didn’t turn into an embarrassment for Die Roten. Neuer made two terrific save to make sure that Rekordmeister had a chance of turning around the game.

DEF, Benjamin Pavard — 6/10

Like most Bayern defenders, Benjamin Pavard also had an average outing against Mainz. The home side was often attacked from his flank. The Frenchman was beaten often, and he failed to stop the cross that led to the first goal. Saturday afternoon felt like a blip for Pavard as he has largely been good in the past few weeks.

DEF, Jerome Boateng — 6/10

Jerome Boateng was unlucky in the buildup to the first goal. He headed the ball straight into the path of Jonathan Burkardt at the edge of the box. The German defender looked shaky throughout the first half, but the second half was much better for him as Die Roten was dominating the possession.

DEF, David Alaba — 6/10

David Alaba was often getting bullied by Mainz forwards. The Austrian defender also gave away the ball in dangerous positions on a couple of occasions. After moving into the midfield, Alaba failed to provide the zip in passing that he has been doing in the past couple of weeks. Eventually, a poor afternoon came to an end when Flick brought him off for Serge Gnabry.

DEF, Alphonso Davies — 7/10

Alphonso Davies looked adventurous throughout the game, but his crossing left much to be desired. Despite poor crossing, Davies was one of the better performers for Bayern on Saturday.
