After the long international break, it was a very positive return to competitive football for Bayern Munich. Last week was poor for Rekordmeister due to serious injury to Robert Lewandowski, but Hansi Flick’s men showed great fight and resilience against RB Leipzig to take a massive step towards retaining the title.

It was not a vintage performance in Leipzig on Saturday as Rekordmeister clinched a narrow 1-0 win on matchday 27. However, the result was worth the gold dust in the context of the season. Getting a lead of seven points at the top of the league would benefit Die Roten to firmly focus on the Champions League.

Leon Goretzka’s goal in the 38th minute was enough for Bayern to claim the win. The goal was a very simple but effective passage of play from the visitors. Joshua Kimmich found Muller’s run into the right flank with a delightful aerial pass. The German forward controlled brilliantly and assessed his options before laying it off for Goretzka at the edge of the box. The midfielder hammered the ball past Peter Gulacsi.

The result alone was huge for the defending German Champions. Hansi Flick was pleased with the mentality of his players throughout the game. Along with the gritty resolve of the team, here are other takeaways from victory against Leipzig.
