MID, Leon Goretzka — 8.5/10
Goretzka has managed to raise the bar of his performances this season. The German midfielder was sensational against VfB Stuttgart. He had the responsibility of holding the midfield together after Alaba moved in the defense.
The German international covered a lot of ground throughout the game, making crucial tackles and interceptions to break the play and release the attacking players on the break. Goretzka also came close to scoring at the end of the game, but his fierce shot missed the target by inches. Another complete and dominant display from Goretzka.
MID, David Alaba — 8/10
Alaba started well in the midfield, retaining the ball and playing those crisp passes between the lines. His time in midfield was short-lived as he was moved into left-back position after Davies was sent off in the 11th minute of the game.
The Austrian international seamlessly slotted in the left-back position. Alaba’s presence in this position helped in containing Stuttgart’s attack on the right flank. His passing was also precise in this position as he was finding the winger in front of him with ease. Alaba’s versatility makes Die Roten such a flexible side on the pitch, which helped them to see out a tricky game with ease.
