Bayern Munich made it two wins in a row in the Bundesliga, but the latest victory was sweeter as they defeated Borussia Dortmund at Allianz Arena. Flick’s men recovered from a two-goal deficit to clinch a thrilling 4-2 win against their arch rivals.

Manager Ratings

Hansi Flick —  7/10

Flick made the right calls in the starting lineup as his faith in Sule paid off. He needs to eradicate these sluggish starts, but his setup helped them to be relentless after going two goals down in the first ten minutes. The introduction of Serge Gnabry was timed perfectly as the German winger provided more intensity in the final third to wear down a resilient Dortmund defense.

Player Ratings

GK, Manuel Neuer — 6 /10

Neuer’s hopes of keeping a clean sheet were diminished early in the first half. The German goalkeeper couldn’t have done anything about the two goals. He had one nervy moment in the second half while playing out from the back. Apart from that error, Neuer didn’t put a foot wrong against Dortmund.

DEF, Niklas Sule —  7/10

Sule had a poor start like the whole defensive unit. He was found back peddling for Dortmund’s second goal after a clever switch of play from Mahmoud Dahoud. As the game went on, the German defender got better. Sule impressed in the final third with some crisp passes along the ground and threatening looping crosses in the box. It was a fairly decent performance from Sule in an unusual position.

DEF, Jerome Boateng — 6 /10

Boateng had a torrid start to the game as he failed to close down Haaland for the first goal. He also couldn’t clear the ball cleanly from Thomas Meunier’s speculative cross that eventually led to the goal. The German defender improved as the game went on. He made a decisive interception to deny Reus a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity. While making this interception, Boateng suffered an injury that forced Flick to substituted him.

DEF, David Alaba —  6/10

Alaba failed to track the run of Haaland for the second goal. However, the Austrian defender was solid defensively for the rest of the game. His passing and ball retention at the back helped Die Roten to sustain pressure after going two goals down.

DEF, Alphonso Davies —  7/10

Davies delivered a mature performance in the left-back position. The Canadian provided the width on the left flank when the wide forward moved inside. His defensive performance was much more impressive as he helped Die Roten to reduce attacks from the left flank and forced BVB to move the ball from the right flank. He also got himself an assist by playing a clever pass into Lewandowski for the fourth goal.
