Bayern Munich’s treble-winning team in 2013

After the heartbreaking Champions League final loss against Chelsea at Allianz Arena in 2012, Die Roten bounced back strongly next year to beat Borussia Dortmund for the league and CL title. In his last full season at the top level, Jupp Heynckes helped Bayern to become the first German club to win the continental treble.

The treble-winning team of 2013 was special due to the astonishing mental resolve they showed to bounce back from gut-wrenching defeats. Dortmund was enjoying a good period in the Bundesliga, beating Bayern for the league title in the 2011/12 campaign.

Winning the league title in 2012/13 set the tone for Die Roten to enjoy unprecedented dominance in Germany. Since the title win in 2013, Bayern has won eight league titles in a row. The foundations of a ruthless German machine were laid during the treble-winning campaign.

In Europe, Heynckes helped Bayern to beat Barcelona on an aggregate score of 7-0. The German manager had made the team ruthless as the likes of Arjen Robben, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Franck Ribery were enjoying peak years of their career. The first treble will always be special for the Bavarian faithful after agonizing defeats in previous campaigns.
