Depth in all areas of the defense
Die Roten will have good depth in defense when they complete the rebuild in the summer. In central defense, Niklas Sule and Nianzou Kouassi will be options to rotate. If Boateng signs a new short-term deal, then he will also provide cover in this position. Benjamin Pavard’s preferred position is central defense, so he is also an option in that area.
The German Champions also have good defensive talent in the youth team that can step up if there is an injury crisis. Lukas Mai is getting consistent playing time at Darmstadt, so he might be part of the first-team next season, while Chris Richards is also highly rated at the club. Richards will get vital game time at the senior level in the next six months as he was loaned out to Hoffenheim for the rest of the season.
In the right-back position, Die Roten will have Bouna Sarr as a backup option, while Richards can also fill in there if needed. The young US international managed an assist from this position early in the season.
Meanwhile, Bayern is also looking to add depth in the left-back position by signing Omar Richards from Reading on a free transfer in the summer. If he does arrive in summer, then Die Roten will have an ample amount of cover in every position in the back four. Healthy competition will push every player to limits and help Flick to get the best out of them.
