Bayern Munich: How will defense look like in 2021/22 season?
The next summer transfer window is going to be the final phase of the defensive rebuild that Bayern Munich had started in 2019. The German Champions are expected to improve the defensive department and have a group of players that will help them in achieving short and long term goals.
David Alaba is going to be high profile exit from Bavaria next summer. The German club wanted to keep the 28-year-old defender, but they were not ready to disturb the wage structure by meeting his salary demands. As of now, he looks destined to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.
Meanwhile, Alaba’s partner Jerome Boateng is also facing an uncertain future of the club as he enters the final six months of his contract. Both players have played a pivotal role in the clubs’ over the last decade, but summer could be time to say goodbyes.
Assuming the departures of two players and the possible arrival of two new defenders, let us look at how the defensive department for Die Roten could line up. Performances will factor in for Flick’s pecking order in defenders, but we will be looking at players that look nailed on to play together on paper as of now.
