Champions League knockout clash against Lazio

It has been a flawless Champions League campaign for Bayern Munich until now. They were unbeaten throughout the group stage, winning five out of six games. The victories in the group stage also included a terrific 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid at Allianz Arena.

The group stages are done and dusted as the tougher phases of the CL begin in February. Die Roten are handed a tricky couple of fixtures against Lazio in the round of 16. The first game between the two sides will take place at Stadio Olimpico on February 24. The reverse leg of the game will take place in March at Allianz Arena.

It is the first competitive meeting between two sides in the Champions League. Lazio did well during the group stages against Bayern’s arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund. They managed to defeat them at home, so Die Roten will have to approach this game with caution and aggression.

Die Roten is aiming to become the only second team in this century to defend the CL title. The credentials of their title defense will be very well tested against Lazio in February. Winning that game with a healthy scoreline will send a big statement to other top European clubs in the competition.
