Bayern Munich: Player ratings from 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim
By Daniel Garza
Bayern Munich continued their winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Matchday 19 of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season. The win allows Die Roten to remain seven points clear at the top of the table. There were four different goal scorers for Bayern against Hoffenheim which was a testament to the complete team effort displayed on Saturday. Here are the player ratings from Bayern’s 14th victory of the Bundesliga season.
Manager Rating
Hansi Flick-8/10
Flick and Bayern were able to fare much better this time around against Hoffenheim. After suffering one of their worst defeats of the 2020/21 season so far to Hoffenheim on Matchday Two, they were able to reverse the 4-1 scoreline in their favor. Flick has continued to guide Bayern towards the Bundesliga title and this victory gave Die Roten a total of 15 points earned in January out of a possible 18. It was a successful month for Bayern in the German top flight and Flick deserves praise for extending their lead at the top.
It was great to see Flick give Marc Roca an appearance in the starting 11 as the summer signing has not been a regular feature in the Bayern starting lineup so far this season. With both Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez testing positive for Covid-19, Flick will have to turn to his younger players in the squad for the time being.
Player Ratings
GK, Manuel Neuer-9/10
Neuer had a fantastic performance against Hoffenheim as the veteran goalkeeper made multiple key saves. He stopped a massive opportunity for the visitors to open the scoring in the eighth minute. Later in the match, Neuer made a spectacular diving save in the 88th minute to deny a Hoffenheim shot that appeared destined to find the bottom corner of the net. This scoreline could have been closer had it not been for Neuer’s great performance.
CB, Jerome Boateng-8/10
Boateng scored his first goal of the season for Bayern. The center back dispatched a well-placed header past the Hoffenheim goalkeeper from a Joshua Kimmich corner kick. He was Bayern’s top player when it came to winning aerial challenges as he won three aerials during the 86 minutes he was on the pitch. Defensively, Boateng registered three clearances, two tackles, and one interception.
CB, David Alaba-7/10
It was another strong performance from Alaba as he helped keep Hoffenheim at bay. The center back recorded three clearances, two blocked shots, and one interception in the victory. When it comes to clearances, Alaba continues to be one of Bayern’s top players. He has recorded 15 clearances in his last five appearances. When there’s danger, Alaba is usually there to get the ball out of the defensive third.
RB, Benjamin Pavard-7/10
This was one of the best performances from Pavard so far this season. The right-back had a great strike in the second half that found the back of the net but it was called back for an offside call in the buildup. Defensively, he led Bayern with six clearances and four interceptions. Pavard was rarely wasteful in possession as he finished with the highest pass completion percentage out of all of the players in the starting 11.
LB, Alphonso Davies-7/10
Overall, it was a strong performance from Davies. The left-back frustrated Hoffenheim as he was the most fouled Bayern player. His pace was too much for the opposition at times and it was no surprise he recorded the fastest speed of the match. Defensively, Davies registered two tackles, three interceptions, and three clearances.
