Bayern Munich: Four early predictions for a busy 2021
Lewandowski will win European Golden Boot
Robert Lewandowski got plaudits for a remarkable campaign with Bayern at the end of 2020. He ended up collecting multiple player of the year awards. It was frustrating to not see him with Ballon d’Or as France Football had cancelled the award due to the pandemic.
Along with Ballon d’Or, Lewandowski narrowly missed out on the European Golden boot last season. Lewandowski was the highest scorer in Europe across all competitions with 55 goals. However, the Polish striker ended the campaign with 35 league goals, but Ciro Immobile managed 36 goals in Serie A.
It will be a different scenario this season as Lewandowski looks hungrier in front of the goal. The Polish striker already has 19 goals to his name in 12 starts, so the Polish striker is on track to win the Golden boot this year. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
Along with winning the golden boot, Lewandowski will also end up equalling Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign. Hansi Flick has given him decent amount of rest during Hinrunde, so the Polish striker should be fit to have an even better second half of the season. His good form in the final phase of the season will also mean that Die Roten will have a strong chance of retaining all trophies.
