Bayern Munich: Four early predictions for a busy 2021
Leroy Sane tears it up after inconsistent first six months
The spotlight has been on Leroy Sane after his form dipped at the end of Hinrunde. However, it was expected that the German winger was bound to have a rough patch of form since he is moving into a new environment. Moreover, he suffered a knee injury in October, so easing him into the setup was the only way to set up him to have an overall good campaign.
In his league debut, Sane showed his quality in glimpses. His direct play in the final third gives Die Roten another dimension in the attack. Despite getting staggered playing time during Hinrunde, Sane made an impact from the bench, scoring important goals against Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg.
Moreover, his underlying numbers this season have been promising. In his best season at Man City, Sane managed to get ten goals and 15 assists with 4.7 xG and 7.8 xA. In the Bundesliga this year, Sane has four goals and three assists at 2.0 xG and 3.0 xA. Considering his past performances, he is likely to tear it up in the second half of the season after a testing adaption period in Hinrunde. (Stats courtesy: fbref)
Sane has started the year in the best possible way as he was on the scoresheet against Mainz. Die Roten will be hoping that he will be fit during Ruckrunde as all signs are pointing towards a strong Ruckrunde for the German winger.
