Jules Kounde

Sevilla had a remarkable campaign last season as they once again lifted Europa League. Throughout the campaign, they had a solid center-back pairing of Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde. The former was aggressive while the latter was the calming presence at the back.

Kounde has been a consistent performer for Sevilla ever since arriving from Bordeaux in 2019. The 22-year-old central defender manages to deliver matured performances at the back through his astute positioning and excellent passing range. He is very good at spotting the runs of forwards from deep.

Despite being below six feet, Kounde manages to dominate aerial duels. He was excellent against Bayern in the UEFA Super Cup. The Frenchman managed to keep Robert Lewandowski quiet for the majority of the game. Kounde also manages to progress play from deeper as he can carry the ball through the midfield.

Signing Kounde would help Die Roten to have a solid crop of central defenders for a very long time. However, the fee for Kounde is likely to be in excess of €60 million. Manchester City tried to sign the young defender in the summer, but the English couldn’t reach an agreement over the transfer fee with Sevilla. Despite being an expensive solution, Kounde could turn out to be an excellent bargain for Die Roten in the future.
