Lucas Hernandez adding a new dimension to the attack

Ever since the injury to Alphonso Davies a couple of weeks ago, Lucas Hernandez has become an even more crucial member of the squad. The Frenchman has enjoyed a good start to the campaign after a disappointing debut season. Along with being an aggressive defender, Hernandez is adding more quality in the final third for the German Champions.

Hernandez was a constant threat in the final third against Dortmund. He managed to deliver four accurate crosses from seven attempts on Saturday. One of his crosses yielded him an assist as Lewandowski headed past Roman Burki to give the lead to visitors at Signal Iduna Park.

The French international also managed to make two key passes in the game, second-most for Die Roten on Saturday. Hernandez’s overlapping inside and outside runs help Die Roten to maintain an overload on the left flank. His passing from a deeper position is also a thing of beauty. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

Hernandez may not be as good as Davies in dribbling past players, but he is more than good enough in the final third. The club’s record signing also remains defensively resolute even when he is committed to making things happen in the final third. Hernandez’s attacking prowess will provide Die Roten more flexibility against difficult opposition this season.
