Bayern Munich: Top five moments from Hansi Flick’s first year in Bavaria
Supercup win against Sevilla
Since Bayern failed to win the CL for six consecutive seasons, they never got a chance to participate in UEFA Supercup. After beating PSG in August, Die Roten had the opportunity to get the opportunity to compete for this trophy.
It was not a straightforward victory for Bayern as Sevilla managed to take the game in extra time. Die Roten did create enough chances to win the game. However, Sevilla had the biggest chance in the dying minutes of normal time to clinch the win.
Flick decided to introduce Javi Martinez in the game. This move turned out to be a masterstroke as the Spaniard scored from a set-piece. The Spaniard had also scored in the previous Supercup victory way back in 2013. Flick has maintained a strong relationship with fringe players that he can always rely on them to deliver whenever they get opportunities.
The Bundesliga and DFB Pokal might be bigger trophies than Supercup, but those trophies are expected to be won by Bayern every season. All top managers have failed to qualify for Supercup with Die Roten in the last six seasons, so this will also remain a special achievement for Flick. (Pep did manage to play in Supercup, but that was courtesy of treble win under Jupp Heynckes)
