Douglas Costa getting back to his best

Fans were surprised when Bayern decided to sign Douglas Costa from Juventus. The German Champions tried to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea but couldn’t convince the English club to sell. Costa arrived at the club on a one-year loan deal on the deadline day.

Costa made his second Bundesliga debut on Saturday. He has struggled with injuries in last 12 months, but the Brazilian showed against Eintracht Frankfurt that he is getting back to his best. The former Shakhtar Donetsk winger kept on switching flanks with Coman, but most of his time was spent on the right side of the attack.

The Brazilian winger attempted six dribbles and made three key passes, most for a Bayern player on Saturday. His dribbling is still very smooth, helping in attracting defenders and creating space for other players. Costa also played a delightful pass for Lewandowski’s third goal. Ivan Perisic was the fourth winger in the squad last season. Costa is set to play a similar role in the first team this season. The Brazil international is not a workhorse like Perisic, but he has the guile and trickery in his arsenal to make a big impact in the final third. If he consistently delivers performances like Saturday, then Costa can turn out to be a shrewd signing for Die Roten.
