Bouna Sarr impresses on Bundesliga debut

Hansi Flick decided to rotate the team after midweek exertion in the Champions League. The introduction of Bouna Sarr in the lineup was one of many changes that the German manager made on Saturday against Frankfurt.

Sarr’s Bundesliga debut was promising for various reasons. The French defender showed all his good qualities in this game. Sarr is good on the ball, and his ball retention is effective in tight situations when the opposition is pressing him. He ended the game with a passing accuracy of 94%.

The French defender also showed quality in the final third by making two key passes in the game, second-most on the pitch. Sarr linked up well on the right flank with Costa. He often provided width by hugging the touchline. Whenever the Brazilian winger was providing the width, then Sarr was coming central to make runs in the final third. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

Defensively Sarr was decent, but he was often outmuscled on the back post. Benjamin Pavard is a physically imposing full-back compared to Sarr. Nevertheless, it was a good performance from former Marseille defender in his first Bundesliga game. He is going to be an important player for the German Champions against low blocks as the Frenchman is very efficient in the final third.
