Goalkeepers: Good selection Dilemma

Bayern Munich decided to be proactive in terms of finding the long-term successor for Manuel Neuer. The club also had a fantastic opportunity to sign one of the best young goalkeepers in Germany on a free transfer as Alexander Nubel was running down his contract at Schalke.

Die Roten acted quickly and reached a pre-contract agreement with Nubel in January. The 24-year-old goalkeeper completed the move in July. Manuel Neuer has also signed a new deal with the club, squashing the speculation surrounding his future.

Neuer will be the first-choice option for Bayern this summer. Under Neuer’s guidance, Nubel will be able to learn a lot and continue his development. Flick is set to hand debut to Nubel against FC Duren in DFB Pokal on Thursday. The German Cup competition is likely to be the only way of getting playing time for Nubel this season.

Sven Ulreich left the club permanently, while Christian Fruchtl went out on loan to FC Nurenberg. Ron-Thorben Hoffmann is set to be the third-choice goalkeeper in the first team. Bayern can rely on Neuer to deliver world-class performances every week. Incase, Neuer needs rest, then Flick has a very good goalkeeper in Nubel to call into the team. The goalkeeping department got much stronger for Flick this season.
