FC Bayern Munich has restructured the defense, but how is it shaping up for a busy season?

It has been a strange summer for FC Bayern Munich. They clinched the treble in the middle of the summer transfer window. The win against Paris Saint-Germain came in August when Die Roten had already completed three transfers for next season.

The focus on defense was not expected this summer since the club forked out more than €100 million on Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. However, there were still few gaping holes at the back that needed addressing. The European Champions ended up signing two defenders and one goalkeeper.

Bayern wants to become the first German club to successfully defend the Champions League title. They have added quality to the squad this summer, but it is going to be a difficult task to win the treble again due to the congested schedule.

If Hansi Flick wants to emulate his debut campaign, he will need his defense to be better than all departments of the squad this season. The start of the Bundesliga has already shown how goals are being scored at a ridiculous rate since teams have not got pre-season training. Defenses have looked shaky, including that of Bayern.

Chris Richards is also an option for the first team as he has already featured in a couple of games this season. The youngster has been impressive at the youth level, so this could be a big season for him in the first team. Ahead of a strict schedule and difficult fixtures, let’s assess the options Flick has at the back to keep players competitive and get the best out of them to win multiple trophies.
