Chris Richards shines in first start for FC Bayern Munich

When the team lineup came out, it was surprising to see Chris Richards get a start in the right-back position. It was not the case of Benjamin Pavard being injured, but more of Flick rewarding the young defender with a start.

Richards didn’t let the manager down as he delivered a good performance in the new role. The youngster was solid defensively and rarely got beaten by the forwards on his flank. He was rarely caught out of positioning throughout his stay on the pitch.

The 19-year-old defender capped off a fine performance by providing an assist for the third goal. He showed great composure to square the ball to Lewandowski at the edge of the box after isolating the defender on the right flank.

More from Bayern Strikes

Richards is considered one of the most promising talents in the reserves team. He is training with the first team consistently, so there will be more opportunities for him in the congested schedule this season. Hansi Flick is also showing in the past couple of weeks that he is open to rotating the team and giving chances to youngsters in the team.

Richards will have more competition since the German Champions have signed Bouna Sarr from Marseille in the right-back position. If he continues to deliver such type of performances, then there is no doubt that Flick will hand him more starts.
