Defensive woes need to be addressed

For sure, FC Bayern Munich has won four out of their five games this season, but the defensive issues have been highlighted in most of those games. The game against Hertha Berlin was not anything different as Die Roten shipped three goals after conceding four last weekend.

The high line defense was exposed against Hoffenheim as a simple ball over the top was causing the team all sorts of problems. However, the situation against Hertha Berlin was completely different. Die Roten’s defense got beaten in the air for all goals.

The lack of pre-season is probably one of the reasons why players are also making uncharacteristic errors at the back. The lapses in concentration are likely to decrease as the season progresses with minutes under the belt. The international break will give players more opportunities to get the optimum fitness level.

However, the highline defense that is struggling during set-pieces and general play is one area where Die Roten may have to come up with solutions. Flick has been good at spotting issues in the team, so there is no doubt that he will be looking to sort out the defense. Teams focus on taking advantage of weaknesses, so this will be a good test for the coaching staff.
