Niklas Sule’s return to the first team
In the past few seasons, Die Roten has always suffered serious injuries to key players. Niklas Sule was the victim last season. The German defender suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in October. He was on the sidelines for more than nine months due to this injury.
Due to lockdown, Sule was able to get some playing time at the end of the campaign. He featured in the Champions League knockout games from the bench. In the final, Sule came on in the 25th minute after Jerome Boateng suffered a muscle injury.
As things stand, Sule is likely to start against Schalke on Friday. The German defender has been a success at the club since arriving from Hoffenheim in 2017. Sule was excited about being a leader at the back last season after the departure of Mats Hummels while Jerome Boateng was not the first choice central defender, but a serious injury ruined his plans.
However, his return will be welcome news for Bavarians. He is one of the best young defenders in the world. Along with David Alaba or Lucas Hernandez, he can form a solid partnership. Sule will be eager to make up for the missed time by delivering strong performances for Die Roten this season. It is a cliché, but the return of Sule is as good as a new transfer.
