At the start of the season, Bayern had to grind out wins in the earlier stages of DFB Pokal. Even in the quarter-finals against Schalke, they had to fight hard to clinch a 1-0 win. However, the final was a straightforward victory for Bavarians.
Bayern went for the kill from the kickoff as they raced away to a comfortable 2-0 lead. Serge Gnabry opened the scoring while David Alaba buried a set piece to double the lead in very little time. Leverkusen did score later in the game, but Robert Lewandowski’s brace meant that Die Roten cruised to a comfortable 4-2 victory.
