League double over Borussia Dortmund

Flick didn’t have the kindest fixture to begin his time as manager of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The German Champions were struggling in the league, dropping points consistently. They were far from the first position when they hosted Borussia Dortmund in November.

After scrapping to a 2-0 win against Olympiakos at Allianz Arena, the game against Dortmund was expected to be a stern test. However, Flick managed to come out of this difficult game with flying colours. Die Roten clinched an emphatic 4-0 win against their arch-rivals. This win turned out to be crucial for Flick as it increased chances of getting him the interim role.

In the reverse fixture between two heavyweights of Germany, Die Roten needed a win against BVB to get one hand on the league title. At Signal Iduna Park in May, Rekordmeister showed that they could grind out wins when the stakes are high. Joshua Kimmich scored the solitary goal in this game to help Bayern get closer to winning the title.

Winning against Dortmund is always sweet for Bavarians. However, the significance of wins against Dortmund even more significant this season considering the circumstances during both games. After suffering defeat against Dortmund in DFL Supercup, it was sweet revenge for Die Roten to do a domestic double on their arch-rivals.
