Success story of the season- Thomas Muller and Bayern’s revival under Hansi Flick

Considering how the season started for Bayern Munich, no one was expecting them to win the treble. Similarly, no one was also expecting Thomas Muller to have his best season since 2016, after struggling to get playing time under Kovac. Then arrived Hansi Flick, and the rest is history.

Bayern were dropping points consistently in the Bundesliga. They were conceding cheap goals, while forwards apart from Lewandowski were not scoring consistently. Flick managed to make the team as a cohesive unit and play high intense football. The defensive unit showed improvement slowly and steadily, while goals were flowing at the other end of the pitch.

Muller looked a shadow of himself at the start of the season. He was reportedly contemplating a move away from his boyhood club. Flick came in and decided to reinstate Muller into his favoured number ten role. The German obliged and went on to claim 21 assists in the Bundesliga.

Flick managed to bring European glory back to the Allianz Arena, which the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Niko Kovac, and Pep Guardiola couldn’t do in the last decade. He rejuvenated Muller and the team that looked going nowhere in October.  Along with improving the fortunes of the team, The revival of the club’s cult hero by Flick, deserves to be the story of the season.
