Best number nine in the world is at Bayern Munich
Robert Lewandowski — 10/10
The talisman of Bayern Munich’s attack. Robert Lewandowski was a man on the mission to win every major trophy from the first game of the season. The Polish striker established himself as the best number nine in Europe by scoring 55 goals across all competitions. His creativity in the final third was also a big asset for Die Roten, grabbing ten assists throughout the campaign.
Lewandowski also silenced his critics by delivering at the biggest stage in the Champions League. He scored 15 goals in the Champions League, scoring against some of the biggest teams in Europe. If France Football hadn’t cancelled Ballon d’Or, then Lewandowski would have surely won it. He is ageing like fine wine and planning to play at the top level for a long time. It was a marvelous season for the Polish striker, but he will be aiming to get even better next year.
Joshua Zirkzee — 8/10
Alphonso Davies rightly got all the praise for being the best young player for Bayern Munich. However, Joshua Zirkzee also deserves plaudits for enjoying a breakthrough campaign. He might not be playing regularly, but the Dutchman has shown enough that he can be relied upon when Lewandowski is given rest. Zirkzee kickstarted Die Roten’s long unbeaten run by scoring late goals to clinch victories against Freiburg and Wolfsburg in December. When Lewandowski suffered an injury against Chelsea, Zirkzee was given the onus to lead the line, which he executed it perfectly. There is more to come from Zirkzee, but the early signs are promising.
