A brief overview of the journey to the final of the Champions League for Bayern Munich.
The long 2019/20 campaign will come to an end for Bayern Munich on Sunday. With a win against Paris-Saint Germain, Flick’s men can complete a treble, making it the best season for them since 2013. Jupp Heynckes had achieved a similar feat with Rekordmeister during that season.
Since Heynckes left the club in 2013, Die Roten has struggled to reach the final of the Champions League. They have consistently suffered disappointments in the knockout stages of the campaign. On most occasions, the team defeating Bayern went on to win the competition.
Pep Guardiola arrived with big expectations in Bavaria due to his impressive trophy overhaul with Barcelona. He made Die Roten dominant in domestic competitions, but they couldn’t get past semi-finals in the Champions League. During his three years at the club, Die Roten were eliminated by big Spanish clubs in the semi-finals.
Carlo Ancelotti had a terrific record in the Champions League, but he managed only a quarterfinal finish in the European competition. Jupp Heynckes came back to the club for an interim role after Ancelotti’s departure. He also managed a semi-final final.
Niko Kovac’s time at the club saw Die Roten getting knocked out in the round of 16 against eventual winners-Liverpool. Flick has done a terrific job in a very short space of time. Since Die Roten are on the verge of enjoying a near-perfect campaign, let us have a look at the journey till the final in the Champions League.
