Midfield conundrum for Hansi Flick in the final

It was a bad day in the office for Thiago Alcantara on Wednesday as he struggled to impose himself on Lyon. The Spaniard has delivered top-class performances for Die Roten in Europe this season, but he struggled against Lyon, making sloppy mistakes in the buildup that were leading to turnovers in the midfield.

Flick will have a welcome selection headache against PSG in the midfield department. Benjamin Pavard made his return from an ankle injury on Wednesday. The French defender has been the first choice right-back for Die Roten throughout the season. His return will allow Joshua Kimmich to move back to the midfield.

In the final weeks of the Bundesliga, Kimmich had formed a strong midfield partnership with Leon Goretzka. The latter has been consistent in the center of the park. He was one of the better performers against Lyon, so he is unlikely to be on the bench against PSG.

Will Flick decide to drop Thiago for Kimmich on Sunday? The Spaniard helps in evading the press, but Kimmich will provide more protection to the back four in central defense. It will be interesting to see whether Flick decides to stick with the line-up that featured against Barcelona and Lyon, or he drops Thiago for Pavard.
