Marcelo vs Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has been widely criticized in the past for not turning up against big teams in Europe. However, this has not been the case this season. The Polish striker has been enjoying the best season of his career, including vital contributions in the Champions League.

Lewandowski was superb against Barcelona, dominating Gerard Pique throughout the game. He was working hard for the team by pressing from the front. The Pole also played on the left flank in the second half when Serge Gnabry was operating in the central areas. It was a complete performance from a number nine, rounded off with a goal.

The Polish striker currently has 13 goals to his name in the Champions League this season. He will be looking to add to this tally against Lyon, but he will be coming up against a defensive rock in Marcelo. The veteran defender has been sensational for Lyon in the last two games.

Marcelo has been the central defender in the three-man defense for Lyon. The Brazilian defender has been faultless while leading the defensive line. He was able to dominate top-quality forwards in the last two games, giving them very little space to work.

Lewandowski has been the best number nine in the world this season, so Marcelo will have his work cut out on Wednesday. Keeping the Polish striker quiet will help in disturbing the rhythm of Die Roten’s menacing attack.
