Houssem Aouar vs  Leon Goretzka

Lyon has been getting plaudits due to their performances in the midfield department against Juventus and Manchester City. The midfield consists of three young players, but Houssem Aouar has stood out in the last two high profile games in Europe.

Aouar has shown the grit and determination by showing discipline while defending, helping the team to give no space for opponents to work in the final third. He also showed great awareness against Man City to make vital interceptions in Lyon’s half. The tactical discipline shown by the 22-year-old midfielder helped Lyon to not get dominated by Man City’s star midfielder.

On the ball, the young French midfielder is majestic. He has the eye for killer passes from deeper positions. Aouar can also carry the ball effortlessly in tight spaces. The Frenchman can play out from dangerous situations to progress the play and take Lyon higher up the pitch.

Die Roten were also superb in midfield against Barcelona. Leon Goretzka provided the steel in the center of the park against the Spanish side. The German midfielder will be looking to dominate Lyon’s midfield physically and make marauding runs in the final third.

Goretzka is likely to be given the role of stifle Lyon’s midfield. If he manages to win the ball regularly against Auoar, then Die Roten will be able to win the ball higher up the pitch and consistently create chances.
