Game management by Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich

One of the biggest reasons behind Flick’s success at Bayern has been due to his team selection. He took very less time to find the best XI and stuck with it throughout the campaign. Continuity in selection allowed the team to find consistency in results and performances.

Despite excelling with team selection, Flick often struggles with game management. He continues to be hesitant to make early changes when things are not going their way on the pitch. The German manager needs to be more proactive with changes in such type of situations.

Bayern has been on the receiving end of one of the best changes a manager could make in Champions League final during the final in 1999 against Manchester United. The two substitutes from Sir Alex Ferguson helped his team to get over the line after trailing for the majority of the game. This is the level of in-game management Flick should be looking to reach since he has a quality squad to his disposal.

Die Roten play a high pressing style of football. On some occasions, despite playing well, results go in the team’s favours. In such situations, a tactical change or change in shape may do wonders to team’s fortunes. Players will have to be at their best to win the competition, but Flick will also have a role from the pitchside area to influence results.
