Three options for Bayern Munich to cope with the absence of Benjamin Pavard.

Bayern Munich are heavy favourites to win the Champions League this term due to their consistent form in 2020 under Hansi Flick. The German champions are set to host Chelsea in the second leg of the round of 16. It will take a miracle from the English side to knock out Die Roten considering they are 3-0 down in the tie.

Ahead of the game against Chelsea, Die Roten suffered a huge injury blow on Sunday. Benjamin Pavard suffered an ankle injury during a training session at Sabner Strasse. The club has not given a time frame for the Frenchman’s injury, but he looks certain to miss the game against Chelsea.

If the injury turns out to worse than initial prognosis, then Die Roten may miss Pavard for the rest of the Champions League games in Portugal. It will be a huge blow for Hansi Flick’s plans since Pavard has been ever-present in the back four under him. He has played the majority of this season in the right-back role for Rekordmeister.

Pavard is not exactly adventurous while going forward, but he provides more solidity to back four when Alphonso Davies acts as an attacking outlet in the left-back position. Flick will have a big selection dilemma ahead of Chelsea game due to Pavard’s position. Here are three possible ways by which Die Roten can cope with Pavard’s absence.
