Benjamin Pavard- Mr Reliable for Bayern Munich

Die Roten struggled defensively last season, leaking goals consistently. The club decided to address the weakness by splurging money in the transfer window. Benjamin Pavard arrived at the club from VfB Stuttgart as part of the defensive overhaul.

It has been a smooth transition for Pavard from playing for Stuttgart to Bayern this season. The Frenchman has been one of if not the most consistent performers for Bayern during the 2019/20 campaign. He started the campaign in central defence but had to move to right-back position after Joshua Kimmich permanently moved to central midfield.

Pavard made the right-back position his own. He is not the most adventurous full-back that will get you out of your seat, but he could be considered as the most reliable full-back. The 24-year-old defender locked down the right flank for most of the games, complimenting the ultra-offensive Alphonso Davies on the left side of the defence.

The former Stuttgart defender also contributed to eight goals in the league. His availability was the biggest plus point since Die Roten were plunged into a defensive injury crisis at the end of 2019. As far as debut campaigns go for a defender, Pavard’s first season should be up there. He performed at an immaculate level in a position which is not his first preference. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
