Uncertain times ahead for Bayern Munich

While this match has a lot of positives in it, like winning the double and doing it convincingly, some uncertainties come with it. Was this the last game in Bavarian colours for Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba? Both will be entering the last years of their contracts. Given the current financial climate during the coronavirus, the club will not want to let them go for free next summer. This means that if they want to leave, Bayern will be looking to sell them.

For Thiago, the player isn’t originally from Munich. He came through Barcelona’s youth academy. The Spaniard has been with Bayern since the 2013/2014 season and has become a staple for this team. While Bayern has always had a crowded midfield, Thiago has always stood above the rest. For the most part of his time in Bavaria, he has always been a regular member of the starting XI. While he doesn’t come from Bavaria, he still is a part of this team and identifies with them. His prime years have been played in Munich.

In the case of David Alaba, he comes from the Bayern academy. Mostly deployed at left-back throughout his career, but this season he has proven that he can be a world-class center back. If he stays with the team, then he will continue to be an important part of the team since he is in the prime of his career. He is an incredibly talented player, and more importantly, an incredibly smart player capable of playing in multiple positions on the field. Bayern hopes that both players stay as they offer so much to the team and their title hopes.

Another uncertainty is the Champions League coming back in August. Bayern now has an entire month off before their next official match. Now, they do have experience in coming off a long layoff right into a competitive match, but this will be against much tougher opposition. The first team will be better served by playing a couple of friendlies before the Champions League games. Bayern has played well in Europe this season. Given their current form, they have a real shot at winning it. Hopefully, they can prepare enough to win the treble this season.
